Sailplane Towing workflow
Users interaction
To enable both the glider pilot and the towing pilot to have a smooth and easy workflow Flying Fleet implemented the following workflow:
- The glider pilot enter a departure up to 24h in advance. Of course it will be just a rough departure time.
The glider pilot can enter in the appropriate field the wished towing work. If flown with an instructor, the instructor can add an "hidden work" which will be visible only by the towing pilot.
- The towing pilot uses the special page "Tow" which shows all the requested tow of the day, sorted by time:
The tow pilot select the current aircraft from the list of towing aircrafts, the runway, verify the plane counter and select the job by clicking it in the list. Finally press "Start towing".
Once the towing job is finished, the towing pilot verifies the plane counter / tow time, optionally adjust them by using the + / - buttons and press the "Finish towing" button.
What happens
- When the towing job is declared as finished, the departure entry will be linked to the towing entry.
- The glider pilot will be charged for all the configured articles.
- An aircraft log for the towing aircraft will be created.
What if
- If the glider departure is not used in the specified day, it will be deleted by the system.
- If the towing pilot cancel the job, the job will re-appear in the list of possible jobs.
- The glider pilot will not be allowed to edit the departure entry after the towing is performed.
- If the glider pilot doesn't enter an arrival the same day, the next night the system shall send an automatic reminder.
- Flying Fleet creates aircrafts log (for a charter aircraft) only when an arrival is created and it can be linked to a departure.
Requirements / settings
- A flight activity type with the logic set to "Towing" must be configured, as this will be used by the towing page.
- Gliders shall use flight activity types with logic "towed". Both the departures and arrivals use the same flight activity type.
- Towing aircrafts must have the flag "Can Tow" and must have a counter timer set (even if it's some self defined value like 100:00)
- Towing pilots must have the right "Towing Pilot" in order to see the "Tow" page
- Tow entries cannot be edited via the usual pilot "Logbook", but can be edited via the "Edit Towing" if the aircraft has the flag "Tow Can Be Edited"
